Banca Monte Paschi Belgio is the only bank of Italian origin operating under Belgian law in Belgium.
Our bank has been active in this country since 1947 and offers individuals, Belgian and foreign companies, as well as different institutions in Belgium, a wide variety of tailor-made products and services. 1472 |
The birth of Monte dei Paschi di Siena, the "The Mount of Mercy". Founded by the city of Siena with the aim of providing interest-free credit for those most in need in a world where usurious interest rates were the only rule in finance. |
1624 |
The Grand Duke of Tuscany used the Monte to relaunch the economy in his territories. The Monte's banking activities continued to develop up until the Unification of Italy in 1861. It took an active part in major public works, notably the construction of the Tuscan rail system. |
1865 |
The Monte extended its presence across Tuscany by purchasing a number of small loan companies. |
1872 |
Some of the Monte's activities were made official, notably agricultural credit, land loans and savings. |
1936 |
In the light of its growing expansion on a national level, Monte dei Paschi di Siena was declared a public loans institution and saw its statutes changed as a result. In accordance with the regulation, a large part of its net profits went to support public works as well as to developing the resources of the city of Siena and of Tuscany. |
1992 |
Monte dei Paschi di Siena bought an Italian bank which had been operating in Belgium since 1947. This was the start of Banca Monte Paschi Belgio S.A. |
